Marriage Licenses:

How to obtain a marriage license:


The Iberville Clerk of Court’s Office provides marriage licenses. Following is information you will need to know before going to the Clerk’s office to purchase a marriage license:


•  There is a 24-hour waiting period after you purchase a marriage license.

•  Both the spouse (1) and spouse (2) must be at least 18 years of age.

•  If either the spouse (1) and spouse (2) is 16 or 17 years old, an officiant may not perform a marriage ceremony in which a minor

is a party unless the minor has the written consent to marry of either:

a. both of their parents,

b. the tutor of the person,

c. a person who has been awarded custody of the minor, or

d. The Juvenile Court, as provided in Article 1547, or

e. a waiver signed by one of the judges.


A minor under the age of 16 must also obtain written authorization to marry from the judge of the court exercising juvenile jurisdiction in the parish in which the minor resides or the marriage ceremony is to be performed.


•  License is good for 30 days. After 30 days it expires.

•  One person, either spouse (1) or spouse (2), can come to purchase the license, but that person must have all information required

for both the spouse (1) and spouse (2).

•  Cost is $35.00 to be paid in cash only.

•  It takes about 15 minutes to type a license. The Clerk of Court’s office prepares marriage licenses from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Monday through Friday.

•  You can purchase a marriage license at any Clerk of Court’s office in Louisiana and use it any place in Louisiana.


Marriage License Requirements


The following is information you will need to have with you and/or know when getting a marriage license:


•  Birth certificates for spouse (1) and spouse (2)

•  Physical addresses of spouse (1) and spouse (2)

•  Mother’s maiden name spouse (1) and spouse (2)'s mother)

•  Father’s name spouse(1) and spouse1 (2)'s father)

•  Know if you live inside or outside the city limits

•  Know what parish you live in

•  The last grade completed in high school and how many years of college completed, if any, for spouse (1) and spouse (2)

•  Know if you are having a covenant marriage or not.

•  If either person has been married before, have the judgement(s) of divorce.

•  Know the date of birth of spouse (1) and spouse (2)

•  Know if the spouse (1) or spouse (2)’s parents were born in Louisiana. If not, know what state or country they were born in.
